Many people think that the hardest part of being fit is the gruesome workouts and gym sessions but when you are interested in your fitness you know that that isn’t the hard part… the diet part is. You are what you eat and if you don’t eat well you won’t feel well.
This is one of the many reasons why meal prepping is beneficial in this fitness journey many of us are on. A huge part of maintaining a healthy diet is being prepared in situations when hunger hits. Unfortunately for all of us, the quickest food to make when you are STARVING is usually not the healthiest. That’s why to maintain a healthy diet you need to plan ahead and prep your meals for the week. That way when you feel hunger creeping on (or if you are like me it hits you like a ton of bricks) then you reach into your fridge and voila! one of the meals you made the day before is there for you to pop into the microwave and enjoy.
Another benefit of meal prepping is that it saves you money- big time. Prioritize making at least your lunches for the week. That way at work you don’t have to go out and buy food. Think about it- if you spend $10-$15 a day on lunch that adds up quickly. Instead of spending that much a day you could be spending that much in total for all your lunches for the week. It also helps you to maintain a healthy diet because you are more likely to eat unhealthy when you are going out to eat.
Meal prepping can also be therapeutic! If you are like me and love to cook then it can become a Sunday night ritual for you as it has become for me. It jump starts my week ahead to prepare my food and get myself organized.
A few tips for meal prepping is to make a few different options so you don’t get sick of eating the same thing. Say you are feeling adventurous and try a new recipe and end up not liking it, you want to have other options so you aren’t having to eat the same meal that you don’t exactly enjoy.
Another tip is to store your food in a tupperware container that you feel is the serving size you should be eating. When you use a giant tupperware container you will think you are eating less food because it takes up less room. A tip- if you think you may be overdoing it in the amount of food you are packing for the day then pour the food out onto a plate. You’ll be surprised. Sometimes I think “wow that’s not enough, I’ll be hungry 5 minutes later” then I pour the food out onto a plate and I’m shocked by how much food fit into my little lunch container.
Your diet should never be boring so try new things each week to keep your diet fun! And remember that eating healthy doesn’t have to be hard as long as you plan ahead.
If you have any recipes you love to make for the week please share! All of my favorite recipes are still to come 🙂
